Our CornOur Sweet Carolina Corn Is One Sweet Package
A North American cereal plant that yields large grains, or kernels, set in rows on a cob. Its many varieties yield numerous products, highly valued for both human and livestock consumption.
All this got us thinking… if we were to produce an exceptional smooth Vodka, wouldn’t it make sense to search for the best sweet corn? Road trips to Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa, and even Georgia ensued, noting that great corn was available. Our American growers are dedicated to their farms! All of them are proud of their corn—and they should be! Bravo!
But, what about our home state of North Carolina? Initially, we assumed that the best available corn would be to the North, Midwest or the West Coast. Yes, your hypothesis was incorrect. With some help and lots of calls, we discovered a grower right here in Polkton, NC.
Corn is native to North Carolina. The settlers discovered Native Americans already growing corn when they came to America. It’s unknown how corn originally came to North Carolina, but settlers discovered corn growing in different sections of North Carolina.
So…we did further research and called. To our amazement, Farmer Jeff listened and responded. He invited us to visit his farm. We accepted! As we approached his farm house for our initial meeting, Farmer Jeff met us at our car, welcomed us, and gave us his great big North Carolina smile. We met. We talked. We visited.
Soon, we were rumbled along a gravel road and stopped at a recently plowed field. Farmer Jeff introduced us to the “BLUE SHARK VODKA” corn field! Yes, we were dumbfounded. We came to Polkton, N.C. to discuss buying his corn—not owning our own corn field! We shook hands. WE MADE A DEAL!
We headed back to Wrightsville Beach, NC with our own BLUE SHARK VODKA corn field! And our new business partner called us that evening to make sure we had arrived safely home. A true southern gentleman, our new friend, and our new business partner!
Farmer Jeff and his brother Mike told us on multiple occasions during our second visit, “Great corn starts with the seed… and your fields got the best seed in America!”
This was followed by another call the last week of June 2018, from Farmer Jeff: “Come visit us soon and see your field,” he implored. We made a third trip to visit OUR cornfield, and how magnificently the corn had grown-high as an elephant’s eye.
Our partners are great, the process is pure, and we expect a super smooth vodka to be gracing your next mixed drink soon.
It’s amazing how far we’ve come from an idea and a dream to a plan and now reality. Today, we are underway, have manned the rails and ready for action.
Our “field of dreams” is insight just 2 points off the port bow!
“Great corn starts with the seed… and your field’s got the best seed in America!”
